How to Determine the Forging Temperature Range?

The forging temperature range refers to the temperature range between the initial forging temperature and the final forging temperature.

1. Forging temperature

The forging temperature range should be as wide as possible to reduce fire and improve productivity.

1) The initial forging temperature of heating is generally 100-200℃ below the solidus to ensure that the metal will not overheat or burn.

2) The final forging temperature is generally 50-100℃ higher than the recrystallization temperature of the metal to ensure complete recrystallization after forging and obtain fine grain structure inside the forging.

2. Forging materials

1) The forging temperature range of carbon steel and low-alloy structural steel is generally based on the iron-carbon equilibrium phase diagram, and the final forging temperature is selected above the Ar3 point to avoid cracking caused by phase change during forging.

2) Due to the influence of alloying elements, the initial forging temperature of high-alloy steel is reduced, the final forging temperature is increased, and the forging temperature range becomes narrower.
