History of Forging in China

In China, forging technology has a long history and is a continuation of the manual workshop production method. Around the beginning of the 20th century, with the invasion of imperialist powers and the rise of the Westernization Movement in the Qing Dynasty, forging gradually appeared in the mechanical industrial production methods of railways, military factories, shipbuilding and other industries. The main sign of this transformation is the use of powerful forging machines. In the 1950s, we can see steam hammers, electric pneumatic hammers, steam presses, etc. manufactured by Britain, Japan, Germany and other countries working in Chinese factories.

In 1967, the First Ministry of Machinery Industry hosted the National "Forging Industry Technology Seminar", at which many European and American technologies and equipment were recommended for the first time. Each participant received a beautifully printed and obligatory atlas of foreign forging equipment, and visited the research progress of military academies. Although the "Cultural Revolution" had already begun, people's spirit of pursuing scientific and technological progress was not completely defeated. The forging industry continued to develop in the 1970s, such as the production of double-column pull-down hydraulic presses and hydraulic die forging hammers. Unfortunately, these equipment did not play a big role in production and gradually withdrew from the market. In the 1980s, as China implemented the reform and opening-up policy, the forging industry had a comprehensive development from quality to quantity.

The development foundation of China's modern forging industry was in the 1960s and 1970s. Some old forging equipment still exists, and most of them are still in operation, which needs to be reasonably updated or suffer. After the 1980s, China purchased a batch of new forging equipment and production lines from advanced countries, but historical problems such as excessive investment, overcapacity, duplicate construction, poor management, and meager profits are also looming, requiring high-level decision makers to respond calmly. After decades of development, especially the implementation of key research projects in the national "Fifth Five-Year Plan" and "Ninth Five-Year Plan" science and technology development plans, China's forging technology has entered a new stage, and has achieved gratifying results in enhancing independent development capabilities, saving energy, and accelerating the development of precision forming.

Entering the 21st century, as domestic forging equipment has increasingly entered forging manufacturers, we are able to produce finished forgings with tighter tolerances. At the same time, China also has machining capabilities and can serve customers in all aspects. Therefore, more and more foreign companies choose China for its low prices, high-quality services and excellent quality.
