What is forging?

Forging is a metal processing technology that mainly applies external force during the deformation process to cause plastic deformation of metal materials, thereby changing their shape, size and organization.

The purpose of forging can be to simply change the shape of the metal or to improve the strength, hardness or other mechanical properties of the material.

Advantages of forging:

1. Improve mechanical properties

Forging can significantly improve the strength, hardness, toughness, wear resistance, etc. of metal materials. The improvement of these properties is mainly due to the changes in the organization and texture of the metal during the deformation process.

2. Reduce internal stress

The plastic deformation generated during the forging process can effectively release the internal stress of the material and avoid or reduce the occurrence of cracks or deformation during subsequent use.

3. Reduce processing time

Compared with other metal processing technologies such as casting and rolling, forging usually requires less working hours and processing equipment, thereby reducing production costs.

4. Improve mold life

During the forging process, the metal deforms evenly, and the wear on the mold is relatively small, which helps to extend the life of the mold.

5. Better design freedom

Since forging can directly form complex shapes, greater design freedom can be achieved to meet specific functional requirements.
