Custom Flanges

Custom Flanges

  • Description

Custom flange services

For custom annular flanges, we only need the outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness, bolt type, and material grade. With that information, we can quote. There is also no minimum order quantity for custom flange products (although, of course, discounts are available for larger orders as the installation costs are spread more widely).

Below is a base flange template that many of our customers use as a reference/guideline. Please call or email us to discuss your flange application and we will send you the appropriate template for your use:

We also offer custom flange templates that you can modify to your liking to better understand your application.

In addition, if an order is already in place, you can request an approval drawing before actual manufacturing.

This gives you the opportunity to do a final review of the product you receive before we put the forgings into the machine.

Anyone can provide standard commodity B16.5 flanges, but when something needs to be modified to meet typical industry requirements, not everyone can quickly produce them in small quantities.

Kingrail Parts is built for this. Don't have a stock material grade, custom finish, or threaded bolt holes? We always say that specials are our specialty! We are always ready to help you complete your project on time.

While we do not design custom flanges directly, we do provide custom flanges based on your requirements. If your project does not meet the ASME code, we do not always have the standard to refer to, so we must confirm all dimensions with you.

When you order a custom flange, please show all details or requirements to our sales staff to ensure that our quote is accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is a duplex flange?

A duplex flange is a pipe flange made of duplex stainless steel with a balanced microstructure consisting of austenite and ferrite. This material has high strength, excellent corrosion resistance and durability, and is used in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing and marine applications.

2. What are the three types of flanges?

There are three main types of flanges: butt welding flanges, slip-on flanges and blind flanges. Butt welding flanges have a long tapered hub that is welded to the pipe for high strength and to reduce stress concentration. Slip-on flanges are slipped onto pipes and welded into place, making them easy to install, but they are less strong than butt-weld flanges. Blind flanges are solid flanges that are used to close off the end of a pipe to prevent the flow of liquid.

3. What are FF and RF flanges?

FF (flat face) flanges and RF (raised face) flanges refer to the type of flange sealing face. FF flanges have a flat face throughout their sealing face, making them suitable for applications where the gasket seat must be completely flush.

These are typically used in low-pressure applications. RF flanges have a raised surface around the hole that helps to concentrate the compression force of the gasket, resulting in a better seal, so they are more common in high-pressure and high-temperature applications.

4. How are flanges specified?

Flanges are specified based on a number of factors, including their nominal pipe size (NPS), pressure rating (e.g. 150, 300, 600, etc.), face type (FF, RF, or RTJ), material (e.g. carbon steel, stainless steel, or duplex steel), and standard compliance (e.g. ASME B16.5 or EN 1092-1).

5. Who makes flanges?

Flanges are manufactured by specialist companies around the world, including major industrial suppliers and manufacturers such as Kingrail Parts, Weldbend, Texas Flange, Metline Industries and Viraj Profiles. These companies produce flanges to international standards and serve industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation and construction.
