Types of Weld Neck Flanges
1. Standard Weld Neck Flange
This type of flange is used with butt welding pipe fittings and is an important component of many piping systems. They are suitable for various interface types and different pressure ratings.
2. Long Weld Neck Flanges
Also known as nozzle flanges or “long neck” flanges, these specialty flanges are primarily used in pressure vessel and tank manufacturing. They serve as an all-in-one replacement for standard weld neck flanges and pipe welding combinations.
Applications of Weld Neck Flanges
Weld neck flanges are used in situations where conditions are harsh. Some common situations include:
1. High pressure systems
2. Wide temperature and pressure fluctuations
3. High temperature environments
4. Handling volatile and hazardous liquids
5. Working in extremely cold conditions
Due to their rugged construction and excellent stress distribution capabilities, these flanges are able to handle such challenging conditions.
Sizes and Dimensions
Weld neck flanges come in a variety of sizes to accommodate pipes of varying diameters. Common sizes for weld neck flanges under the ASME B16.5 (Class 150) standard include:
* 1/2″ NPS with a 0.62″ ID and 3.50″ OD.
* 3/4″ NPS with a 0.82″ ID and 3.88″ OD.
* 1" NPS has a 1.05" ID and a 4.25" OD.
* 2" NPS has a 2.07" ID and a 6.00" OD.
* 5" NPS has a 5.05" ID and a 10.00" OD.
* 6" NPS has a 6.065" ID and a 11.00" OD.
* 10" NPS has a 10.02" ID and a 16.00" OD.
* 20" NPS has a 19.25" ID and a 27.50" OD.
* 24" NPS has a 23.25" ID and a 32.00" OD.
For larger ODs (up to 60"), custom sizing options are also available. Pressure ratings range from Class 150 to Class 2500, and flange face types include RF (raised face) and RTJ (ring joint).
