There are many reasons for forging cracks. Today I will introduce in detail the causes and treatment methods of forging cracks caused by defects in forging ingots.

Most defects in steel ingots may cause cracking during forging. The figure shows the central crack of 2Cr13 ingot forging.

1. This is because the crystallization temperature range of 6T ingot is narrow and the linear shrinkage coefficient is large during solidification.

2. Due to insufficient condensation shrinkage, large temperature difference between inside and outside, large axial tensile stress, dendrite cracking, and interaxial cracks are formed inside the steel ingot, which further expand into cracks in the steel ingot forging during forging.

Forging cracks can be eliminated by the following methods:

1. Improve the purity of molten steel;

2. Slowly cool the ingot to reduce thermal stress;

3. Use good heating agents and insulation caps to increase filling shrinkage capacity;

4. Use center press forging process.
