Free forging is one of the most commonly used forging methods. Below we will introduce the advantages and disadvantages of free forging.
Advantages
1. Forging is flexible and can produce small parts below 100kg and heavy parts above 300t;
2. The tools used are simple general tools;
3. Forging is to gradually deform the blank in different areas; therefore, the forging tonnage required for the same forging equipment is much smaller than that of model forging;
4. Low requirements for equipment accuracy;
5. Short production cycle.
Disadvantages
1. The production efficiency is much lower than that of model forging;
2. The forging has a simple shape, low dimensional accuracy and rough surface; the labor intensity of workers is high and the technical level is required;
3. It is not easy to achieve mechanization and automation.
