According to the different cooling speeds, there are three cooling methods for stainless steel forgings: cooling in air, which is faster; cooling in sand, which is slower; cooling in furnace, which is the slowest.

1. Air cooling

After forging, stainless steel forgings are placed directly on the workshop floor for cooling, either individually or in piles, but not on wet ground or metal plates, or in places with through wind, so as to avoid uneven cooling or excessive local cooling causing cracks.

2. Cooling in dry sand pits (boxes)

Generally, the steel sand temperature is not less than 500℃, and the surrounding sand thickness is not less than 80mm.

3. Cooling in furnaces

After forging, stainless steel forgings are directly placed in furnaces for cooling, and the temperature of steel parts in the furnace is not less than 600-650℃. The temperature of stainless steel forgings in the furnace is equivalent to the temperature inside the furnace. Since the cooling rate of stainless steel forgings can be controlled by adjusting the furnace temperature, it is suitable for post-forging cooling of high alloy steel, special alloy steel forgings and large stainless steel forgings.
